Your Dog’s Teeth Don’t Belong in My Arm

Really Mad Martin is a dog. He has a stick with seven notches, one for each of his biting victims. He sits behind a fence with a sign that reads, “Worry About My Dog”. The fence is the remnant of 1960. Really Mad Martin can sneak through one of many holes, and he often does.

His owner rents an apartment, and the landlord knows that the dog often escapes and terrorizes people in the common areas of the apartment building. The landlord hasn’t fixed the fence, and he doesn’t intend on doing so. The dog is basically the local hit man.

Really Mad Martin bit the right forearm of Madeline Maurice, who was visiting her the sister, a tenant of the complex. “This dog’s teeth don’t belong in my arm,” she said. Once she learned of the dog’s vicious propensities, she pursued a claim. The dog’s owner, Johnny, doesn’t have insurance or assets.

The issue is whether Ms. Maurice can pursue a claim against the landlord.
